Today, with bingos rising popularity, people are starting to ask themselves – where did bingo came from, who invented it, what's its history?
Well the roots of bingo go long back, way before the age of online casinos. Actually the origins of bingo have nothing to do with casino games.
Bingo originated from the ancient national Italian lottery. Formed in the 16th century, it is being held almost steadily till today. In the Italian lottery they had also a numbered card, though the order and numbering system was different.
Later on the game continued to evolve in the French lottery during the 18th century. The French variation of bingo has become very popular amongst the French intellectuals.
During the 19th century a game very similar to our modern bingo was played in Germany. The German game was called beano because they used beans to mark the squares!
In the early 1930's this game has made its way to America without arousing any special interest, until it was discovered by a toy sales man named Edwin S. Lowe. Lowe saw immediately the amazing potential of the game so he went ahead and adapted it to the version we now call bingo.
The name bingo came to birth from a mispronunciation made by an over excited winner!
